Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — June 30, 2025 — A Tennessee man is facing multiple drug charges after police said a traffic stop in Jonesboro over an insurance violation led to officers finding several drugs, some of which were hidden in his groin area.
According to an affidavit, on June 26, an officer stopped a truck near East Johnson Avenue and Russell Drive due to the truck’s registration having unconfirmed insurance.
The officer met with the driver and told him the reason for the stop. When doing so, he could smell marijuana from inside the truck; thus, another unit was called in. The officer had the driver exit the truck and searched him, but nothing of note was found.
The officer then asked the passenger, 41-year-old Andrew Russell Simpson, of Palmyra, Tennessee, to exit the truck to search him. The affidavit stated that in Simpson’s groin area, the officer could feel “a hard foreign object inside his pants.” When asked about this, Simpson denied having anything there. However, he later got the item out, which was a meth pipe.
The officer checked the groin area again and still felt a hard foreign object, to which he asked Simpson to remove. Simpson then took out a clear bag that contained 24 grams of meth. A search of the truck also revealed two bags, one of which contained 3.1 grams of marijuana and another with 18.25 grams of Psilocybin mushrooms.
On June 30, Craighead County Judge David Boling found probable cause to charge Simpson with possession of meth or cocaine with the purpose to deliver greater than 10 grams but less than 200 grams, possession of a Schedule I or II substance that is not meth or cocaine greater than two grams but less than 28 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a Schedule VI substance less than four ounces.
Simpson is being held on a $50,000 cash/surety bond in the Craighead County Detention Center, awaiting his next court appearance on Aug. 21.
