Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – A Jonesboro man is being held on a $150,000 cash/surety bond after police said he after police said he nearly ran over an officer’s foot and rammed multiple vehicles, including a patrol car, during a chase.

District Judge David Boling found probable cause Jan. 21 to charge Dujuan Izelle Thomas with the following:

  • Class D Felony: Fleeing
  • Class D Felony: Aggravated assault
  • Class D Felony: Second-degree criminal mischief (recklessly destroys)
  • Class A Misdemeanor: Resisting arrest – refusal to submit to arrest/uses force
  • Class C Misdemeanor: Obstructing governmental operations/refuses to provide information
  • Misdemeanor: Driving while license cancelled, suspended or revoked
  • Unclassified: Careless and prohibited driving
  • Unclassified: Speeding one to 15 miles per hour over the limit
  • Unclassified: Expired vehicle license/failure to pay registration fee

According to the affidavit, on Jan. 14, Jonesboro police officer Scott Martin saw a vehicle driven by Thomas near E. Matthews Avenue and Tony Drive and noticed the vehicle’s registration was expired. Martin attempted to stop the vehicle, but Thomas sped off.

The vehicle then stopped at E. Matthews and E. Nettleton avenues. Martin tried to approach the vehicle on Thomas’s side, but police said Thomas took off and nearly ran over Martin’s foot. The officer then saw Thomas leave his traffic lane to swerve around a vehicle.

Thomas entered a dead-end parking lot on Crawford Street. There, Martin said after he began giving Thomas orders to exit the vehicle, Thomas backed into Martin’s vehicle and hit two other vehicles in an attempt to drive off. The affidavit said the total damage was estimated at $3,000.

Officers were soon able to get into Thomas’ vehicle and attempted to get him out, but he resisted, leading to Martin deploying his K9 partner. Officers were then able to remove him from the vehicle and placed him in custody.

The affidavit noted Thomas refused to provide his name to officers after being placed in custody but was identified soon after. It also said he has a suspended driver’s license.

Along with the $150,000 bond, Thomas will have to wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release from the Craighead County Detention Center.

Thomas’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 20.
