Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — May 23, 2025 — Police arrested a Jonesboro man Thursday morning after they said he drove into a house while intoxicated.

Circuit Judge Barbara Halsey found probable cause May 23 to charge 45-year-old Matthew Kyle Huckaby with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit, reckless driving, and second-degree criminal mischief.

According to the probable cause affidavit, an officer responded to an address on Dogwood Lane where a vehicle had crashed into the house. When the officer arrived, Huckaby was already outside the vehicle.

When the officer asked what happened, Huckaby said he “slid,” reportedly slurring the word, and pointed at the intersection of Flint Street and Dogwood Lane, according to a Jonesboro Police Department incident report. He also had a “strong odor of alcohol,” the affidavit said.

The incident report added that Huckaby appeared to be driving south on Flint Street at a “seemingly high rate of speed” when he “ran the sign and ran into the house.”

After failing his standard field sobriety tests, Huckaby was taken to a hospital where he was read the Arkansas Statement of Rights Form and signed it. A warrant for his blood was signed after he refused further testing, the affidavit said.

The report lists Huckaby as the director of student conduct at Arkansas State University.

Todd Clark, chief marketing at communications officer at A-State, provided the following statement to JRN: “A-State is aware of Matt’s arrest.  As a matter of policy, the university does not comment on personnel issues.”

The incident report noted this was the second time this home had been struck. The first time, repairs cost around $15,000, although the report said the damage was more extensive on this second striking, due to an electrical box getting hit and the vehicle being larger. The vehicle was a white Ford F-150.

According to online jail records, Huckaby was arrested May 22 at 3:23 a.m. and released from the Craighead County Detention Center at 4:11 p.m. on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 31.
