Brookland, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — June 12, 2025 — Brookland police arrested a man after responding to a domestic disturbance on Cardinal Street involving allegations of assault and restraint.

On June 9 at 11:43 p.m., officers arrived to find the victim visibly distressed with redness on her face and neck. According to the affidavit, the victim told police that her boyfriend, 37-year-old PastCanell Jackson of Jonesboro, had assaulted her following an argument that began at work and escalated after they returned home.

According to the victim, Jackson grabbed her by the throat and slammed her against a wall, causing her head to hit a mirror. When she tried to leave, Jackson allegedly blocked the front door. After she sat on the couch, he yanked her to the floor, causing injury to her head and back, the affidavit said.

The victim said Jackson continued choking her and threw her phone across the room, preventing her from calling for help. She recalled trying to tell him she couldn’t breathe but was unable to speak.

The affidavit said the victim tried escaping through the back door, but Jackson blocked it as well, repeatedly telling her she wasn’t going anywhere and threatening her with further violence. “Slap me again and see what happens,” he reportedly said.

Police informed the victim that Jackson would be arrested, his vehicle towed, and a no-contact order issued. The victim also revealed this wasn’t the first time Jackson had assaulted her. She cited at least seven prior altercations, including one last year that led to Jackson’s arrest. Her mother corroborated her account and described a history of ongoing abuse.

Jackson was arrested and transported to jail. While standing before Judge David Boling on Wednesday, the judge found probable cause to charge Jackson with felony aggravated assault, interference with emergency communications, and kidnapping/false imprisonment.

His bond was set at $125,000. He is required to wear an ankle monitor and must have no contact with the victim. Jackson’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 31. Jackson is being held in the Craighead County Detention Center.
