Perry David Whitaker, 75, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024, at his home in Rector, Arkansas. Born on September 8, 1948, in Greene County, Perry’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his loved ones, his passion for the outdoors, and his service to his community.
Perry is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lola Fahr Whitaker, who was his partner in life’s journey and his steadfast companion through all of life’s ups and downs. Together, they raised a family that includes two sons and a daughter, Brian and his wife Anna, Breta Dean and her husband Matt, and Brad and his wife Sharece. He was a cherished brother to Phillip Whitaker and a proud uncle to Jason Laster. Perry was predeceased by his father, Irvin Whitaker, but is fondly remembered by his mother, Willodean Whitaker, who saw in him the embodiment of the family’s best qualities.
Perry also leaves behind a lineage of joy in his grandchildren: Ashley, Derek, Shana, Austin, Savanna, Matison, Tenlee, Baylee, and Brody. His love and teachings will live on in his eleven great-grandchildren, who will miss their great-grandfather’s wisdom and warmth. He has many nephews and nieces that loved and will miss him greatly.
After completing his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Perry dedicated his life to the dual professions of gunsmithing and farming, blending his love for the land with his skill in craftsmanship. His work was not just a job but a calling, as he provided for his family and served his community with pride and integrity.
Perry’s commitment to service was evident in his early years when he joined the Army National Guard, serving from 1967 to 1973. His experiences shaped a man who understood the importance of duty and the value of contributing to something greater than oneself. Later, he continued his service by becoming an active CO-OP board member, where he was respected for his wise counsel and practical insights.
A man of Baptist faith, Perry’s spirituality was a quiet strength that guided him through life’s challenges and joys. His beliefs were shown through his actions and his kindness towards others. He found solace and peace in the outdoors, whether it was working on his land or simply enjoying the beauty of nature. Perry’s love for the outdoors was only matched by his love for his family and friends, with whom he shared countless memorable moments.
Those who knew Perry would describe him as wise, loving, and handy. He was the person you could turn to for advice, the one who would lend a helping hand without hesitation, and the one whose presence made any gathering feel like home.
Perry’s legacy is not only in the land he tended or the items he crafted but in the hearts of those he touched. His wisdom will continue to guide, his love will forever warm, and his handiwork will stand as a testament to a life well-lived.
