Jonesboro, AR — (Contributed) — June 10, 2025 — First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro is hosting the Ozark Mission Project (OMP) from June 8–13, welcoming more than 150 youth and adult volunteers from across Arkansas for a week of hands-on mission work and community outreach.
Volunteers from United Methodist Churches across the state, including Pulaski Heights UMC (Little Rock), FUMC Conway, Cabot UMC, FUMC Hot Springs, FUMC Texarkana, and the host church, First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro, have come together to serve neighbors in need throughout the Jonesboro area.
Under the guidance of trained college staff and volunteers, youth will complete a variety of projects ranging from painting and yardwork to building wheelchair ramps and offering companionship to local residents. This week of service is a key part of OMP’s mission: to transform lives through worship, fellowship, and hands-on mission.
One example is a partnership with Deliverance Family Worship Center in Jonesboro to build a wheelchair ramp outside their Community Outreach Center to make it easier for them to serve the community.
“Our church is thrilled to welcome these students and support the life-changing work of OMP,” said Dr. Michael Roberts, senior pastor at First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro. “This is faith in action—young people living out the call of Christ by serving with love, humility, and joy. Their presence here is a blessing to our neighbors and to our congregation.”
Founded as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit of the Arkansas United Methodist Church, Ozark Mission Project organizes summer mission camps for youth. These camps engage students in acts of compassionate service, addressing the needs of the elderly, disabled, and low-income families while fostering spiritual growth through shared meals, storytelling, and devotions.
