Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Dec. 18, 2024 – The City of Jonesboro reported that over 100 tons of trash were collected during the 2024 Neighborhood Cleanup.

In a news release, the City said the monthly Neighborhood Cleanups collected 106.06 tons of trash and 849 tires. This is more than the amount collected in the 2023 cleanups, which was 95.63 tons of trash and 443 tires. The City has hosted the Neighborhood Cleanups since 2022.

The Code Enforcement and Sanitation Departments, as well as the Keep Jonesboro Beautiful Commission host the cleanups.

“Less waste in streets and ditches keeps our city’s waterways clear, allowing for faster drainage of storm waters, preventing excessive flooding. That impacts EVERY resident,” the news release said.

Glass collection was also implemented for the first time this year. Sanitation superintendent Patrick Courtois said the Sanitation Department was still determining the amount of class collected.

“It’s really keeping Jonesboro looking good,” Courtois said. “I’m proud of it. I’m very proud of this and I can’t wait to see what glass it gonna add to it.”

The next Neighborhood Cleanup will be Saturday, Jan. 11 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. A location has not yet been determined.
