Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – The city’s public transportation service GOJO is rolling out new stops this week, aiming to connect riders with community hotspots and improve wait times.

The service announced that beginning Monday, Sept. 28, it would be adding the following new stops:

  • Revenue Office
  • Greensborough Village
  • Annie Camp Junior High School
  • Helping Neighbors Food Pantry
  • Union Park

“We’re very happy to rearrange some of our current routes to make [wait] times a little bit better,” said GOJO field transit supervisor James Tate. “We’re going to be hitting places like Walmart on Grant [Avenue] and Food Smart and things like that on a better basis. We’ll be getting there more frequently.”

The new stops add service to highly requested parts of town such as the revenue office, according to GOJO director Lee Wells. Some have also been relocated to increase rider safety, as previously, riders have had to cross busy intersections to get to their destination after deboarding the bus.

The new Annie Camp stop, Wells said, allows the transit service to explore opportunities to add stops covering more residential areas nearby, such as along Matthews Avenue and Loberg Lane.

“As we continue to run these routes, you may see some temporary stops come up as we try to find where other areas have need,” he said.

With the addition of the Red Wolf 1 and Red Wolf 2 routes that service the Arkansas State University campus, city routes that previously had to circle campus have now been split to reduce wait times.

Route 53, which previously traveled between the NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital campus and Craighead Industrial Park, will now be split. Route 17, which once serviced areas near the A-State campus, will now service to the NEA Baptist campus, while Route 53 will take riders toward the industrial park.

“That’s reducing your wait time for those that are trying to get out to Hytrol or someplace like that to work. It’s not an every hour [wait time], now it’s actually like an every 30 minutes [wait time],” Wells said.

With these new stops and reworked routes, bus arrival times will be affected. Buses may arrive at stops a bit earlier than they previously have, so GOJO leadership recommend giving oneself plenty of time to arrive at their stop.

To see the new stops, as well as keep track of when one’s bus is arriving, Wells recommended downloading the GOJO app, which allows riders to track bus routes, see incoming buses, and more. Digital signage recently installed in the shelters will also inform riders of updated arrival times.

“It’s just really wanting to make sure everyone is aware of the possibility that the timing may change. You’re gonna have a better wait time, but your expectation of ‘I know that it comes at this time,’ that may have been tweaked a little bit,” Wells said.
