Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug 21, 2024 – Fraudulent US Treasury checks keep showing up in bank accounts around the city.
Recently, Anthony Smith deposited a US Treasury check for $18,699 into his account at Unico Bank. The check was later returned to the bank as fictitious. This was just one part of a criminal enterprise that had been in operation for a while.
In mid-July, Treasury checks were deposited into three different accounts. All of them were fraudulent. The total of all the funds that were fraudulently obtained was almost $46,000. Each of the three subjects involved all referred to a man with the name “Meatball.” He was the one who gave them the checks and he was the one that they brought a lot of the cash to.
One of the subjects identified “Meatball” in a photo lineup as Demetrice Jenkins. He admitted to distributing the fake checks to a total of 6 different people, and also to being the one who received most of the money.
“Meatball” is being charged with forgery and his bond was set at $250,000 cash only.
