Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — March 19, 2025 — A Trumann man has been accused of fleeing the scene of a hit and run in Jonesboro involving a bicyclist.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on March 18, 35-year-old Zachary Thompson struck a bicyclist near Highland Drive Caraway Avenue. Thompson reportedly left the scene, but police located him about nine minutes later. The victim was taken to St. Bernards and later airlifted from the hospital for treatment.

When officers made contact with Thompson, who was in the driver’s seat, they smelled burned and fresh marijuana on his person. Officers noted a broken windshield and blood, connecting Thompson’s vehicle to the accident.

After his arrest, Thompson was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center for field sobriety and blood-alcohol content testing, where he showed signs of impairment, the affidavit said.

Thompson is charged with one count of second degree battery, one count of leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, and one count of DWI – drugs.

While standing before Judge David Boling, Thompson was given a $175,000 cash or surety bond. The affidavit noted Thompson was on suspended imposition of sentence out of Poinsett County and had previously pled guilty to drug charges, which Boling said was part of the reason for the high bond.

His next court date is May 22.
