Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – June 19, 2024 – Jonesboro Police were called to East Johnson in reference to a stolen vehicle.

Monday afternoon, William Adams dropped his 2018 Ford F-250 off at Smith Tire and Auto to get the oil changed.

Employees told Adams that they were going to need a certain oil type before they could change it, so Adams left the truck there, unlocked, with the key in it.

When the oil was delivered to the shop, Smith employees went out to get the truck, but it was gone. They just figured Adams had changed his mind, and they didn’t think anything about it.

Adams came in the next day, Tuesday, to pay the invoice and get his truck, but it wasn’t there.

For a minute, everybody was confused, but then they put 2 and 2 together, and called the police.

Officers filed a report. Just a couple of hours later, dispatch got a call. A State Trooper had located the stolen truck on I-40 near Lonoke. A man was driving the truck on the shoulder of the highway at about 45 mph. The trooper thought that seemed strange, so he pulled the vehicle over. The trooper said the driver was acting strange, too.

The driver told the trooper that he had just gotten out of NEA Baptist Hospital after having heart surgery. He was even still wearing a hospital band on his wrist.

The trooper then called for an ambulance, and the man was transported to Spring Hill Baptist near Lonoke.

After the trooper confirmed that the truck was indeed the truck reported stolen out of Jonesboro, they had it towed. Adams was contacted and told where to pick up his vehicle.

No further details on the health of the driver, or any charges.
