Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – July 21, 2025 – Jonesboro police arrested a man after they say he crashed into an ambulance while he was drunk and left the scene.
Craighead County Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause Monday to charge 23-year-old Drew Langston Qualls, of Hayti, Missouri, with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage only (greater than $10,000), driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit, and having an expired vehicle license.
According to the affidavit, on July 18, Jonesboro police officers responded to a hit-and-run involving an ambulance that occurred in the area of Cottage Home Trail.
The driver of the ambulance told police that as they were coming around the curve, another vehicle hit them, causing the ambulance to run off the road. The affidavit said that damage was found around the driver’s door and toward the rear of the vehicle, adding that a lighter gray or white vehicle could have caused the damage based on the paint marks.
Another officer was turning onto Nestle Way from Interstate 555 when they saw a white vehicle driving with its hazard lights on. The officer stopped the vehicle when he noticed heavy damage to the front driver side. The steering wheel air bag had also been deployed.
The affidavit said the driver, Qualls, denied hitting the ambulance and said that something ran out in front of him and he hit it. The officer noted that Qualls was slurring his words, had bloodshot eyes, and had trouble opening the door.
After being discharged from a hospital, Qualls was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where he is being held on a $25,000 cash/surety bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 30.
