Jonesboro – Larry Lee Layne, 72, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Cox Health Center South in Springfield, Missouri.
He was born December 26, 1951 to the late Clyde and Nina Layne of Black Rock, Arkansas. He graduated from Valley View High School before joining the United States Army and proudly served in the infantry for over 17 years rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Serving at Fort Riley, Kansas, U.S. Garrison Wiesbaden, Recruiting Station Florissant, Missouri, South Korea Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Liberty Bell and Fort Polk, Louisiana. Later becoming an over the road truck driver for nearly twenty years before turning in his keys for a local route as a Total Life Healthcare Bus Driver for St. Bernard Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Retirement led him north to Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas where he was a dedicated member of the Franklin Baptist Church in Franklin, Arkansas serving on the Building & Grounds committee and assisted with the refurbishment of the youth facilities. He enjoyed refurbishing antiques, often found at estate sales, hunting, fishing, gardening, and his dogs Zoey and Sissy.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and an infant son, Timothy Scott Layne.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Layne, of the home. He was a proud father to son, Tobey Layne and daughter, Erin Layne of Washington state, grandfather of two granddaughters, Kalli and Hanna, and great grandfather of Isaiah. Larry was also a devoted brother to sisters Kaye Brown, Brenda Bennett and Lisa Layne of Horseshoe Bend and brother Byron (Connie) Layne of Glencoe, Arkansas.
Graveside funeral service will be officiated by Jeff Hawkins, Pastor of Franklin Baptist Church, at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be Monday, December 16, 2024 at Gregg-Langford-Bookout Funeral Home in Jonesboro from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The family requests that you consider wearing blue jeans and a ball cap.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Friends of Horseshoe Bend Animals, a non-profit organization focused on helping local animals.
