Lake City, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – June 27, 2024 – According to a Facebook post from the City of Lake City, the recycling program officially came to an end yesterday.
Lake City Mayor Cameron Tate told JRN that it simply wasn’t sustainable anymore. With the previous contract, the cost per ton was around $202, but the new contract through Abilities Unlimited was quoted to increase to over $500.
Tate said that Lake City received a grant through the county that covered $5,000 in recycling costs, but it was costing over $12,000 to “haul off” the recycled materials.
The City’s Facebook post stated that the last scheduled pickup was yesterday and they are not renewing the contract with any other companies.
The City of Jonesboro’s Recycling Program is also seeing some changes. With Abilities Unlimited quoting $625 per ton, the City chose to take the low bid and enter into a contract with Marck Industries for $188.77 per ton.
