Jonesboro, AR — (Contributed) — June 18, 2025 — As the city of Jonesboro prepares to close out a week of reflection, celebration, and connection, KLEK 102.5 FM invites the entire community to attend the Juneteenth Fireworks Display.

The display will be on Thursday, June 19, at University Lions Park, located at 502½ N. Bridge St. Gates open at 8:30 p.m., and the fireworks will begin promptly at 9:15 p.m. following a proclamation by Mayor Harold Copenhaver.

This vibrant fireworks finale will cap off KLEK’s 8th Annual Juneteenth in Jonesboro, which has seen strong turnout and support from community members, churches, local businesses, and families throughout the week.

“We want to sincerely thank the community for making this year’s Juneteenth in Jonesboro events so powerful,” said LaGanzie Kale, general manager of KLEK. “From the Paint & Sip to the parade, the community fair, and the worship service, Jonesboro showed up not just in numbers, but in spirit. This fireworks display is our way of closing out the week with joy, honor, and unity.”

The Juneteenth Fireworks Display is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, bring lawn chairs or blankets, and enjoy this community-wide moment of remembrance and celebration.

Juneteenth National Independence Day, observed annually on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, TX, to inform the last remaining enslaved African Americans of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued.

For generations, African American communities have celebrated Juneteenth as a powerful symbol of delayed justice, enduring faith, and the continuing fight for equity.
