Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — June 24, 2025 — In preparation for the Independence Day holiday, Jonesboro Sanitation Department workers are running double routes next week.
Sanitation superintendent Patrick Courtois said the routes were being doubled to allow workers a three-day weekend to celebrate the July 4 holiday.
“We wanted to give our staff a break because they don’t usually get a break,” Courtois said. “If they come back from a holiday, then they have to play catch-up and that just takes two or three days. It’s hot outside, so we wanted to try to give them a good three-day weekend.”
The days the routes will run are listed below:
- Monday, June 30: Run Monday and Tuesday routes
- Tuesday, July 1: Finish Tuesday routes, run Wednesday route
- Wednesday, July 2: Run Thursday route
- Thursday, July 3: Run Friday route
The updated recycling schedule is listed below:
- Monday, June 30: 1st Tuesday
- Tuesday, July 1: 1st Wednesday
- Wednesday, July 2: 1st Thursday
- Thursday, July 3: 1st Friday
No collections will occur on Friday, July 4, as offices are closed.
“One of our little slogans that we came up with a couple years ago was ‘When in doubt, set it out.’ So, it’s a day early, so just set it out and then we’ll get it taken care of,” Courtois said.
He added that once sanitation workers pick up your trash and recycling, take your bins back to your house.
Courtois said if things go well, running double routes may continue before other holidays.
“If we can make this work, I’m going to try to give them [Sanitation Department workers] some more days,” he said.
