UPDATE 4:43 P.M: 

The Jonesboro Police Department said in a Facebook post that a 15-year-old female suspect was arrested around 4:15 p.m. The suspect was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center. The incident remains under investigation.

UPDATE:

After rumors of an ongoing lockdown emerged, Nettleton Public Schools Superintendent Karen Curtner said that although they had gone on lockdown when the threat was first discovered, however the school is not currently on lockdown.

“We are having a lot of parents checking out their students,” she said, adding that no one would be allowed in or out if the school were on lockdown. “We are still doing our investigation with the help of the Jonesboro Police Department, and we do have extra JPD officers on campus.”

Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept. 17, 2024 – Jonesboro police are investigating a threat made to Nettleton Public Schools via social media.

A social media post read “if you go to [Nettleton School] in Jonesboro ar y’all school will be getting shoot up tomorrow at 7:30 and I will be sitting outside the school waiting for doors to open … I will be wearing all black acting like a kid.”

JPD public information specialist Sally Smith told JRN that Jonesboro police are investigating the threat and have assigned more officers to the junior high and high school campuses. As of 10:04 a.m., school is not closed. Jonesboro police were made aware of the threat early this morning.

In a Facebook post, Nettleton Public Schools said they are “working diligently to trace the source of the threat.”

Smith added that the threat is widely circulated on Snapchat and Facebook, and that new threats to different schools are added daily.
