The department is accepting candy or monetary donations for the event and is competing with the Jonesboro Fire Department (JFD) to see who can collect the most.
“There’s always bragging rights. We like to have healthy, fun competition with our other public service members,” said JPD recruiting and community outreach Sgt. Evan Henry. “We always appreciate any donations that are made to either organization.”

Those wishing to donate can dropoff new, storebought candy at the Jonesboro Police Department at 1001 S. Caraway Road, or at JFD Station 1 located at 3215 E. Johnson Ave. The department also has an Amazon wishlist, which can be accessed here.
For those wishing to make monetary donations, cash can or checks can be dropped off at either location. Make checks payable to Jonesboro D.A.R.E.
In addition to candy donations, JPD is accepting applications for booths and for those wishing to volunteer. Volunteers will assist with setting up the event, cleanup, passing out candy, and more. Those interested in volunteering or reserving booth space are encouraged to contact Henry at 870-935-5657 or at ehenry@jonesboroar.gov. Applications for both close Oct. 20.
JPD is expecting around 10,000 to 12,000 people to attend. It is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. from Jefferson to Warner avenues in downtown Jonesboro, with the bulk of the activities to be near the Union Street/Matthews Avenue intersection.
“It’s a little opportunity for the police department to put something on and give back to the community that supports us so well,” Henry said. “It is a good time. It’s a place that people can bring their kids downtown for an hour and a half and have a good time.”
