Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Feb. 7, 2025 – A nonprofit is looking to educate and provide resources for geriatric residents with neurological conditions in northeast Arkansas.
MK Community Outreach, founded by executive director Kara Norton in August 2024, is a 501 (c)(3) Public Benefit Corporation named after Norton’s mother, Mary Kimberly, who died of glioblastoma brain cancer.
According to Norton, the small nonprofit organization offers education and exercise assistance to the NEA geriatric population, specifically including those with neurological conditions.
“Currently, it is only in Northeast Arkansas, but the hope is to grow throughout the state of Arkansas over time,” Norton said. “Our hope is to grow into other events to better our community residents. Some of the specific events of MK Community Outreach include Parkinson’s disease boot camps, mini boot camps, exercise classes, and education provided to therapeutic clinicians and students pursuing therapeutic postgraduate programs.”
She also noted that MK Community Outreach is comprised of community activists who create opportunities for individuals with neurological conditions to have a positive and meaningful quality of life. The founding board of directors are Norton, Danyelle Hutton, April Ryan, Amanda Mohler and Marci Moffitt.
“Our focus is to offer as many events as possible that will promote functional fitness and individual quality of independence for the geriatric residents of Northeast Arkansas,” Norton said.
The organization has a Parkinson’s boot camp event scheduled for the week of July 21-25.
