Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — April 6, 2025 — A Jonesboro mother is behind bars after police said an investigation revealed she beat her child, leaving them with facial injuries.

According to the affidavit, on Oct. 30, 2024, a school got an anonymous phone call reporting a 7-year-old had been beaten by their mother, 30-year-old Ebony Xzavia Beaird.

During an interview with the child, the investigator noted multiple injuries, including scratches and bruising on their face. The child said their face hurt after Beaird “whipped” them, but they denied that she hit them in the face. Photos were taken of the injuries as evidence.

The affidavit said that on Dec. 11, 2024, the investigator received a witness statement. They explained that Beaird admitted to beating the child and asked the witness to look at the victim’s face, describing the injuries as “brutal.” The witness added that makeup was put on the child’s face to try to hide the injuries and detailed the location of those injuries, falling in line with photos that were taken a week after the incident.

Police said Beaird was contacted multiple times for an interview, but she failed to appear for any scheduled appointments. She said she was afraid to attend the interview because of being potentially arrested.

A bench warrant was issued for Beaird, who was arrested on April 3.

On April 4, a judge found probable cause to charge Beaird with second-degree domestic battery involving physical injury.

Beaird was given a $50,000 cash/surety bond, with her next court date scheduled for May 22. According to online jail records, she was released from the Craighead County Detention Center April 5 at 10:50 a.m.
