Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – September 12, 2024 – KAIT and the Jonesboro Radio Group announced today that the television and radio companies will broadcast a live debate with the City of Jonesboro mayoral candidates ahead of the November general election.

The two-hour debate will take place in the K8 studios on Monday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m.

All four candidates—Jonesboro Councilman L.J. Bryant, Mayor Harold Copenhaver, Thomas Elwood, and Jeremy Terrell—have agreed to participate in the debate.

The live two-hour debate will be broadcast on K8-ABC, the K8 News app, and streaming platforms. The debate will also be broadcast on 104.9FM “The Fox” radio as part of K8’s partnership with the Jonesboro Radio Group.

K8 veteran journalist Diana Davis will moderate the debate.

Questions will be determined by the K8 News staff and viewers, who will be able to submit questions via the K8 News social media platforms in real time.

Due to limited space, there will not be an in-studio audience.

“As the largest news organization in the region, it’s our job to give voters the information they need to make an important decision that will influence the future of Jonesboro for at least the next four years,” said KAIT News Director Grendel Levy. “We want to ensure voters are informed before heading to the polls.”

“KAIT has a long and storied tradition of broadcasting local political debates,” said KAIT Vice President and General Manager Hatton Weeks. “It’s our civic duty to make sure voters see and hear the candidates for this important office.”

“Our community benefits from the ways our companies partner to address important issues,” Trey Stafford, Jonesboro Radio Group President/General Manager said. “I appreciate Hatton including our audience in this important conversation.”

KAIT has historically moderated and broadcast the Jonesboro mayoral debate including in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The debate is set for Oct. 14, a week before early voting for the November general election starts on Oct. 21.
