Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Oct. 4, 2024 – The man involved in yesterday’s high-speed pursuit that ended in Jonesboro was charged Friday.

24-year-old Rashun Garry, of Jonesboro, was charged with one count of fleeing in a vehicle, one count of battery in the second degree, one count of reckless driving, one count of fleeing on foot, one count of driving on a suspended license, one count of speeding more than 15 over the limit, one count of no liability insurance and one count of driving left of center. He was given a court date of Nov. 14 at 8:30 a.m. and a bond of $75,000 cash-only.

Around 3 p.m. yesterday, an Arkansas State Police trooper noticed a gray car traveling west on Highway 18 going 90 mph in a 60-mph zone. The trooper attempted to catch up to the vehicle, after which the vehicle fled at 120 mph. Due to heavy traffic, the trooper was unable to catch up safely.

The trooper informed other officers in Craighead County of the vehicle’s description. Another Arkansas State Police trooper noticed the vehicle on Highway 18 west of Lake City. He attempted to stop the vehicle, after which Garry reportedly fled at 120 mph.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Garry drove into oncoming traffic and nearly caused several crashes.

The trooper performed a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) at over 120 mph. This caused Garry to travel off the highway and into a ditch, while the trooper lost control of his vehicle and rolled over. This caused significant damage to the vehicle and serious injury to the trooper.

After the suspect’s vehicle came to a stop, Garry exited and reportedly fled on foot for about 90 yards, after which he was tackled and placed under arrest.

“Garry’s actions put the public’s lives in substantial danger of death or serious physical injury,” the probable cause affidavit read. “His reckless actions also caused serious injury to [the trooper.]”
