Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 6, 2025 – A Jonesboro man hid from officers in an attic after fleeing a traffic stop, police said.

On Friday, Jonesboro police conducted a traffic stop near Johnson Avenue and Fisher Street due to the car having a taillight out. The vehicle came to a stop, but as officers approached, it began to speed off and turned onto Chalky Street and then Johnson Avenue, accelerating to a “high rate of speed.”

Officers did not pursue the vehicle but watched as it returned to a home on Philip Evans Way. Officers contacted the vehicle’s registered owner, who said she knew the driver was, but that she “didn’t know him like that.” The vehicle owner permitted officers to search the residence to make sure the driver wasn’t there.

When officers entered the home, they saw an attic cord swinging as if it had just been used, the probable cause affidavit said. Officers made contact with another person in the home’s bedroom, who told them that a “foot had just come through the ceiling.” There was a hole in the ceiling and insulation all over the bed.

Officers deployed a K9 in the attic, and they found the 23-year-old driver in a corner. Officers confirmed he was the driver and took him to the Craighead County Detention Center.

The driver was charged with one count of fleeing, one count of resisting arrest, one count of reckless driving and one count of speeding. He was given a $35,000 cash or surety bond and a court date of Feb. 28. He is being held at the Craighead County Detention Center.
