Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — June 18, 2025 — A Jonesboro man accused of raping a juvenile had his bond set at $500,000.
While standing before Judge Tommy Fowler on Wednesday, 53-year-old Michael Smith was charged with one count of rape and one count of second degree sexual assault. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim and must wear a GPS ankle monitor if he makes bond.
According to the probable cause affidavit, a juvenile under the age of 14 contacted the Jonesboro Police Department on March 13 regarding Smith sexually assaulting them. Smith lived in the home with the victim and their mother.
The affidavit said the victim was taken for a forensic interview, in which they disclosed that Smith had repeatedly touched and rubbed the victim inappropriately. It added there were more occasions of Smith touching the victim in their private areas, as well as several instances of him asking the victim for sexual favors in return for buying or doing things for them.
According to online jail records, Smith was arrested June 16 at 3:25 p.m. Smith’s next court date was set for July 31, and he’s being held in the Craighead County Detention Center.
