Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — May 14, 2025 — A Jonesboro man has been accused of criminally attempting to commit first-degree murder and is being held on a $500,000 cash or surety bond.
The Jonesboro Police Department responded to a reported shooting near Melrose Street and Word Avenue on April 21. Upon arrival, they found a male victim with three gunshot wounds, the probable cause affidavit said.
The incident was captured on a SkyCop video surveillance camera in the Cedar Heights/Melrose Street area. According to the affidavit, the video shows a man, later identified as 29-year-old Brandon Williams, loitering and pacing on Melrose Street. As the victim came into view, Williams moved along the fence line to intercept him and then went behind it.
From there, Williams opened fire, the affidavit said, and hit the victim at least twice. Video showed that the victim fell to the ground and Williams continued firing. According to the affidavit, after the shooting, Williams jumped the fence and entered a townhouse on Cedar Heights.
Officers later obtained a search warrant for the townhouse Williams was seen entering and found his identification. Additionally, two JPD officers told detectives about a previous incident involving Williams and the victim at a nightclub in downtown Jonesboro in mid-April.
While standing before Judge David Boling on Wednesday, state prosecutors requested a $500,000 bond, while Williams’s attorney, Bill Stanley, requested a $250,000 bond. Boling, citing concern for public safety, sided with state prosecutors, noting Williams isn’t from Craighead County and his previous violent arrests, even though the cases were dismissed.
Williams is charged with one count of criminal attempt for first-degree murder, one count of possession of a firearm by a certain person and a misdemeanor marijuana charge. His next court date is June 27. He’s being held in the Craighead County Detention Center.
