Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Nov. 27, 2024 – A Jonesboro man could face life in prison after allegedly selling drugs that killed a woman.

Jonesboro police were first called to a home on E. Word Street on Aug. 2 in reference to a deceased woman. While speaking to witnesses on scene, officers learned she had a history of drug abuse.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for an apartment in the Gladiolus Apartment complex on Aug. 6, in which they found 44-year-old Jamien Thompson, along with several illegal drugs including fentanyl.

During their investigation, officers learned the victim was at Thompson’s apartment the day before she was found dead. Witnesses told officers they’d seen Thompson give the victim a powdery substance, and that she put it in her purse before leaving Thompson’s apartment.

Thompson was arrested on Aug. 6 around 9 p.m.

During a mirandized interview with police, Thompson said he knew the victim and confirmed she was at his apartment just prior to her death. He also told officers he sold her fentanyl “recently,” and that they used drugs together at his apartment.

He also told officers he sold drugs to other people too.

Thompson denied giving the victim fentanyl the last time she was at his apartment and said another person gave her the drug.

According to the probable cause affidavit, investigation, witness statements and digital forensic evidence determined that the victim died approximately 12 hours after leaving Thompson’s residence.

Autopsy results showed the victim’s cause of death as fentanyl, methamphetamine and alprazolam toxicity. The fentanyl concentration was “well within the toxic to lethal range,” the probable cause affidavit read.

Thompson is charged with one count of homicide – aggravated death by delivery and one count of introducing a controlled substance into another person’s body.

He was given a bond of $1.5 million cash or surety and a court date of Dec. 16 at 8:30 a.m. He is being held in the Craighead County Detention Center.
