Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Nov. 19, 2024 – A Jonesboro man has been pronounced dead after being shot in a domestic violence incident on Friday.
According to a news release from the Jonesboro Police Department, JPD officers responded to a shooting incident on Melrose Street on Friday around 8 a.m. They discovered 38-year-old Rontea Thompson suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was given medical attention on scene and was transferred to St. Bernards Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
When the scene was turned over to the Criminal Investigation Division, they discovered the shooting happened as a result of a domestic violence incident that occurred between Thompson and a woman living at the home.
19-year-old Zashawn Martin has been taken into custody and is being questioned about the events leading to the shooting. There has been no arrest at this time.
The case has been sent to the prosecuting attorney’s office for further review.
