Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – May 3, 2024 – A Jonesboro man, who was released from jail Wednesday on a $50,000 temporary bond, was charged with robbery, third-degree battery and theft of $1,000 or less on Friday.

District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to charge Julian Lual, 22, with three counts. Robbery is a class B felony while the other two charges are misdemeanors.

On April 27, Arkansas State University police were called to the Kum & Go at 2214 E. Johnson Ave. about a disturbance. The victim told officers that Lual had stolen three packages of Cigarillos from behind the counter, according to a probable cause affidavit. The victim confronted Lual, who was told to return the items. Lual removed two of the three packages from his pocket.

Lual was then told by the victim to empty his pockets and asked co-workers to call the police. At this point, the affidavit said, Lual pushed his way toward the door. People who were with Lual circled the victim, with one telling him, “Tonight isn’t the night for this.”

While the victim was talking to the group, Lual got behind him and struck him in the back of the head with a closed fist, the affidavit said. Lual then attempted to steal $24.68 worth of Cigarillos.

Lual’s next court date is May 24 in Craighead County Circuit Court.
