Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Dec. 18, 2024 – A Jonesboro man was charged with his fourth DWI, causing Judge Tommy Fowler to give him a $10,000 cash-only bond.

Arkansas State Police Trooper Josh Landreth responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 1 and Craighead Road 418 on Dec. 14. When he arrived on scene, Landreth found a 37-year-old man had rear-ended the other vehicle while traveling north on Highway 1.

While near the man, Landreth could smell the odor of intoxicants coming off the man. In the man’s car were two empty pint-sized bottles of vodka and one open bottle that was approximately half empty. The man was the vehicle’s only occupant.

Due to the presence of the bottles, odor of intoxicants and the man’s manner of driving, he was suspected to have been driving while intoxicated.

The man was taken to the St. Bernards emergency room, where he had slurred speech, bloodshot, watery eyes and still smelled of intoxicants. Hospital staff took a sample of the man’s blood, which was sent to the crime lab for analysis. The man was admitted to the hospital for injuries sustained during the crash.

Officers reviewed the man’s criminal history, which showed a DWI arrest in 2018 and two DWI arrests in 2023. This was the man’s fourth DWI arrest, which increased the charge from a misdemeanor to a felony.

The man contacted Landreth on Dec. 15 after he was released from the hospital, and Landreth met with him and arrested him on Dec. 18.

While standing before Judge Fowler, the judge considered the man to be a “danger to the public.”

The man was charged with DWI fourth offense, one count of inattentive driving, one count of driving while suspended for DWI and one count of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.

He was given a court date of Jan. 24 at 8:30 a.m. and a $10,000 cash-only bond. If he makes bond, he will not be allowed to drive and will have to wear an alcohol detection monitor. He is being held in the Craighead County Detention Center.
