Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — May 21, 2025 — A Jonesboro man has been accused of first degree domestic battery after police say he shook a baby so hard it resulted in severe injuries.
While standing before Judge Tommy Fowler on Wednesday, 23-year-old Michael Robinson was charged with one count of first degree domestic battery and given a $150,000 cash or surety bond.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on May 16, Arkansas Crimes Against Children were notified of a 2-month-old baby who had been flown to Little Rock with a brain bleed. Investigators made contact with doctors at the hospital, who said some of the injuries were newer and some older. The infant also had bruising near his jawbone and abdomen.
Investigators spoke with the infant’s father, Robinson, in an interview, who said the baby had woken up. He began patting him and bouncing him on his lap when the child “let out a loud screech and spit up and began having a hard time breathing,” the affidavit said. He later said he was alone when this happened.
Later during the interview, Robinson told the investigator he’d probably “bounced the baby too hard and shook him too hard,” and that he’d been stressed and tired, so he couldn’t remember how hard he shook and patted him.
The affidavit said when asked about the bruise on the infant’s chin, Robinson told investigators he was holding the infant by his face while trying to burp him and likely squeezed too hard.
Robinson was later arrested in the Department of Human Services parking lot “without incident,” the affidavit said, and he was taken to the Jonesboro Police Department.
While under Miranda, Robinson told officers he shook and bounced the baby too hard and demonstrated “how his little head was bouncing around,” the affidavit said. Robinson was then taken to the Craighead County Detention Center. The child is still in the hospital.
Robinson is ordered to have no contact with the infant and cannot have visitation unless DHS is present. His next court date is June 27.
