Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — May 14, 2025 — A Jonesboro man is being held on a $1 million bond after being accused of possessing child sexual abuse material.
According to the probable cause affidavit, a home health nurse contacted police, saying she’d been tending to one of her patients, 72-year-old Steven Speirs, and had seen some images on one of his computers that appeared to depict young males. She added that she opened one of the folders, which showed thumbnails of young male genitalia.
Spiers told the nurse his computer had been hacked and that someone was sending him the images and he knew it was illegal, the affidavit said. Officers obtained a search warrant and seized the computers. During the search, the Jonesboro Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children division found 10 original images depicting child sexual abuse material, according to the affidavit.
Spiers was later located and taken into custody. According to online jail records, he was arrested May 12 at 5:40 p.m.
While standing before Judge David Boling on Wednesday, prosecutors said Spiers had no ties to Craighead County, had previous charges, and may have changed his name. Boling said that due to this, the bond would be set at $1 million cash or surety.
Spiers replied that the name change was due to a previous issue with his bank getting information mixed up with another patron’s, and that his relatives in Craighead County were deceased.
He’s been charged with one count of possession of use of child sexual abuse material. He is also not to have any internet-connected devices or access. Spiers’s next court date is June 27.
