Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — June 27, 2025 — The Jonesboro Human Development Center (JHDC) celebrated summer with its much-anticipated “Water Day Luau” on Friday.

Two towering inflatable water slides anchored the festivities, joined by snow cones, basketball hoops, and fishing games. Tropical Santa made a special visit, and the Elks Lodge provided lunch, with sweet treats from Nothing Bundt Cakes.

“This is one of our staple events for the summer,” said Kisha Miller, director of education. “We love our people here at JHDC, and we want them to live their best life. Part of that is making sure they have fun.”

Master gardeners helped clients plant seeds for the center’s sensory garden, and a digital Earth display added to the interactive experience.

Miller emphasized the importance of community involvement, noting partnerships with local businesses and other organizations. “We can’t take them to Disney World, so we bring Disney World to them,” she said.

Recreational leader Patience Woody coordinated many of the activities, working alongside other employees and volunteers to ensure clients had a day full of joy and connection.

Superintendent Diane Keith was praised for supporting the team’s creative ideas. “She allows us to bring our dreams and be our creative selves,” Miller said. “That’s a big part of why we’re able to do this.”

The event reflects the center’s mission to provide not only care but meaningful life experiences for its residents.
