Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Feb. 18, 2025 – The Jonesboro Fire Department shared several tips on Tuesday to help prevent heating fires during the expected wintry weather.
People should keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from all heat sources. This includes fireplaces, wood stoves, radiators, portable heaters, candles and more.
Space heaters should be plugged directly into an outlet and homeowners should ensure its cord isn’t damaged or frayed.
Additionally, people should never use an oven to heat their homes or use candles for emergency lighting. If you lose power, always use flashlights, and be sure to stock up on extra batteries beforehand.
Finally, homeowners should keep heating equipment and chimneys maintained by having them professionally cleaned and inspected once a year.
