Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Crews responded to a fire near the track and field complex at Arkansas State University.
Jonesboro Fire Department Chief Marty Hamrick told JRN that a piece of construction equipment in the area, which was not near any buildings, caught fire and had spread to nearby grass. He said crews were working to contain the fire.
He added that traffic should not be affected, but people may want to be cautious of smoke in the area.
Todd Clark, chief marketing and communications officer at A-State, told JRN the fire occurred during facilities maintaince work near the university’s rugby pitch, which spread to an out-of-service utility vehicle and a brush pile.
“The Jonesboro Fire Department responded promptly and quickly extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported, and the situation was contained without impact to campus operations,” he said. “The university appreciates the quick response of local first responders and is reviewing the incident as part of our standard follow-up procedures.”
