Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug 26, 2024 – A family farm business in Jonesboro has recently been the victim of a fraud scheme that amounted to tens of thousands of dollars.

Samantha Scott, with Scott Family Farm Partnerships, sent a farm-land lease check for $68,000 to a farm in Texas. She sent the check through USPS via Overnight Express on July 15th.

When the delivery got to Texas, the package had been opened and the check was missing. Scott contacted her bank and cancelled the check.

On August 1st, she received notice that a check from Scott Family Farms had been cashed in Cross County. The check was for $30,000, made payable to the Navy Federal Credit Union. This was not a check that the Scotts had authorized. The check had been edited to show Tanisha Dobbs of Memphis as the account holder.

On August 15th, a second counterfeit check was presented to their bank in Cross County. This check was for $68,800 and was made payable to Tiante Abston.

Investigators believe it’s possible that the checks were intercepted at the Mail Processing Facility in Memphis.

Since both check incidents took place in Cross County, the Scotts were advised to file reports with the Cross County Sheriff’s Office.
