Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – March 7, 2025 – Police arrested a Jonesboro woman after they said she attempted to steal money by manipulating a discount for a customer. According to the affidavit, on Feb. 26, a Jonesboro police officer went to the Lowe’s on Fair Park Boulevard for a theft that had previously occurred.
A Lowe’s Asset Protection Employee told the officer that a customer had come forward about an incident that occurred Feb. 16 and was concerned that he had unknowingly been involved in a theft from the store.
The customer said that day, he brought his items valued at $1,234.54 to the register, and the cashier, 40-year-old Bonnie Nicole Jones-Hicks, said she could give him “an even better deal” than using the store’s discount program, which he was part of.
“Jones scanned only certain items and presented the customer with a total of $123.60 then asked the customer for $400 cash to cover the remaining balance,” the affidavit stated.
The employee said the customer was under the assumption the reasoning behind the cash payment was that his daily credit card limit had been reached. Regardless, the customer gave Jones the $400, however, he was concerned and returned the next day to pay the bill in full, the affidavit stated.
The investigation revealed that the incident resulted in a loss of $1,110.94 for the business, police said. Jones was arrested on March 6 and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.
On March 7, Craighead County Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to charge Jones with three counts of theft of $5,000 or less but greater than $1,000 – all others. Jones is being held on a $25,000 cash/surety bond and scheduled to be back in court on April 24.
