Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — March 20, 2025 — A Jonesboro man has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $26,000 from an elderly couple while working as a caregiver.
Police say 37-year-old Steven Caraway was hired to assist a man suffering from dementia and was entrusted with limited access to the couple’s debit card. Over several months, Caraway withdrew $19,198 from ATMs across the city, despite being told not to take out cash, the probable cause affidavit said.
Investigators also found that Caraway had accessed the woman’s phone and transferred $6,925 to his personal CashApp account.
Investigators found surveillance footage from a Kum & Go ATM that reportedly showed Caraway making withdrawals. In an interview, he claimed the victim had given him permission. The woman said that statement wasn’t true. Caraway said the CashApp transfers were loans, but the female victim said that wasn’t true.
Caraway was arrested on March 18 and charged with theft. He was given a $10,000 cash or surety bond. According to online jail records, Caraway was released March 19 at 3:36 p.m. His next court date is April 24.
