Joe Edward Carter, affectionately known as “Smoky,” passed away peacefully on July 4, 2024, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Born on November 14, 1946, to Leland and Jewel (Hart) Carter, Smoky was a man of great character, with an infectious humor that brightened the lives of all who knew him.

A dedicated truck driver for 46 years, Smoky’s strong work ethic was matched only by his love for hunting and fishing. This love of outdoor pursuits created cherished memories for his family, who fondly remember his tales of the one that got away.

Smoky is survived by his loving sisters, Shirley Clifton and Judy French, his step-daughter: Jamie (Stephen) Simmons, his step-grandchildren: Sydney (Wes) Watts, Sam Simmons and Sophie Simmons as well a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Deborah, his brothers, Junior and Jerry Wayne Carter, and his parents.

There will be a Graveside Service on Friday, July 12, 2024 beginning at 11:00 at the Woodland Heights Cemetery.
