J.H. Burton, 92, of Walcott, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas.  He was born July 25,1932, to James and Elvie Burton.  He was of the Baptist faith.

          J.H. served in the Korean War and was stationed in Oklahoma and Colorado.  He worked for the Arkansas State Highway Department for 31 years.  After retirement, he enjoyed having cattle and helping local farmers haul grain and bale hay.

          His greatest joy was his daughter, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren.  He anxiously waited for Avery to get home from school each day so he could call her.  J.H. loved hearing about Jaren and Elsa-Bob’s swimming and Lynnlee’s (also known as “The Mule”) adventures.

          When he was no longer able to go out, he would sit at the window and watch the happenings outside.  He also loved watching rodeos on T.V. on Sunday afternoons.

          J.H. was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lorene Lamb, Mary Alma Hoffman, and Jamesena Cox and brothers Gilbert Burton, Murrel Burton, and Marvin Burton.

          Survivors include his loving wife of 72 years, Bonnie (Reed) Burton; daughter, Darlene Boozer (Carl); grandchildren, April Willis (Flynn), Ryan Boozer (Ashley); great-grandchildren, Avery Willis, Lynnlee Willis, Elsa Boozer, Jaren Boozer; and several nieces and nephews.

          The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 28, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home.  The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Terry Songer officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.  

          Serving as pallbearers will be Flynn Willis, Ryan Boozer, Jaren Boozer, Carl Boozer, Brian Curtis, and Frankie Swindle.  Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Mangrum, Raymond Minton, Dean Wall, Brian Songer, and Bradley Vaughn.
