Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Oct. 22, 2024 – Hundreds of early voters flocked to the Craighead County Election Annex to be among the first to cast their ballot.
Although the voting didn’t start until 8:00 a.m., the line started forming about 6:30 on the first morning. Election officials are expecting about 2,000 people a day during the early voting period.
JRN spoke with a few people after they cast their ballots.
“You never know when emergencies might come up. So, you get it out of your way when you can,” Maurice said.
 Leslie stated, “I like to just jump right in and get it done. I don’t like to procrastinate.”
Perry had to fit in his vote around his work schedule.
“I work 8 to 5, and I had time to do it today. It’s great to vote. And I just wanted to do it as soon as possible,” he said.
Pam said she was looking at “the big picture” when she cast her vote. “I came to vote today because I want our country to be one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” she said.
Voting can also be a stress relief, according to Cathy. “I wanted to get this behind me,” she said. “I’ve been worried about it forever. Now, I can just kick back and watch.”
For the first day of early voting, Craighead County reported 1,891 ballots cast in Jonesboro and 364 in Lake City, bringing the total votes for the county to 2,255.
Early voting starts at 8 a.m. each morning at the Annex in Jonesboro and Lake City and continues until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
