Paragould, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A Hoxie woman is being held in the Greene County jail after police said she stole a Camaro and failed to stop after striking another vehicle and fleeing the scene.
On May 2, officers were dispatched to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Paragould to assist with the discharge of an uncooperative patient. Upon arrival, Brittany L. Cox told officers that she would not leave and was then escorted off the property and told not to return, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Approximately 30 minutes later, a blue Chevrolet Camaro was involved in a hit-and-run accident near West Mueller Street and Linwood Drive in Paragould. An employee of Baptist Memorial Hospital later reported that their blue Chevrolet Camaro had been stolen earlier in the day.
Witnesses to the accident said the Camaro ran a red light, struck another vehicle, then fled the scene. The witnesses described the driver as a young woman wearing a pink hat, and the damage to the vehicle as occurring on the driver’s rear side.
Surveillance footage from Baptist Memorial Hospital showed Cox stealing the vehicle approximately 20 minutes after leaving the hospital. That information, along with the vehicle’s make and model, was passed along to the Hoxie Police Department, which located the Camaro in their city. After conducting a traffic stop, officers noted fresh damage on the driver’s side rear of the car and made contact with Cox, who was driving the vehicle.
Cox was arrested and transferred back to the Paragould Police Department. She declined to make a statement but was observed wearing a pink hat, the affidavit said.
Cox appeared before Judge Curtis Hitt on May 3, who found reasonable cause to charge her with the following:
- Theft of Property – Class C Felony
- Accident Involving Dmanage to Vehicle or Personal Property of Another Person – Class A Misdemeanor
Cox is being held on $35,000 bail.
