Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – January 26, 2025 – St. Bernards Hospital began when a malaria fever epidemic spread throughout northeast Arkansas. The Olivetan Benedictine Sisters were asked to help take care of the sick. They purchased a six-room frame house on East Matthews in Jonesboro and set up rooms with cots for beds and covered orange crates for washstands. On July 5, 1900, St. Bernards Hospital took its first patients.
2025 marks 125 years since the St. Bernards mission began. St. Bernards kicked off a year of celebration with the “1900 Gala” held Saturday night at the St. Bernards Auditorium.
A “black tie optional” event meant guests were “dressed up” for the gala. Here are a few photos from the event being served on social media today.
