Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — March 26, 2025 — A high-risk sex offender has been accused of living within 2,000 feet of a Jonesboro elementary school.

While standing before Judge Tommy Fowler on Wednesday, 46-year-old Armando Hamilton of Jonesboro was charged with one count of failure to register – failure to comply with reporting requirements, and one count of registered offender living near school/daycare.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Hamilton was convicted of three counts of 1st degree sexual assault in 1999. He was assessed as a Level 3 sex offender, denoting him as a high risk.

On Aug. 8, 2024, Hamilton was found to be living at 2101 Sandbrook Drive, which is 1,804 feet from Fox Meadow Elementary School. Officers arrested him for failing to comply with reporting requirements, and he was later released on Oct. 8, 2024, and given a court date later that October.

Hamilton failed to appear at that court date, the affidavit said, and he was rearrested on Dec. 31, 2024, for failure to appear. He was released on Feb. 13 and failed to make contact with any jurisdiction in Arkansas to update his reporting requirements, the affidavit said.

On March 25, officers with the Jonesboro Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit went to 2101 Sandbrook Drive to locate Hamilton, where they saw him sitting in a chair in the driveway with his car in the garage. He was taken into custody.

Officers contacted Hamilton’s girlfriend, who said they both lived at the residence on Sandbrook Drive. Investigators also confirmed Hamilton had utilities at the home since Feb. 27, 2023.

Hamilton’s next court date is May 22, and he was given a $75,000 cash or surety bond. If he makes bond, he must wear a GPS ankle monitor. He’s being held in the Craighead County Detention Center.
