Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) — March 5, 2025 — Get ready to “spring forward” on Sunday as Daylight Saving Time (DST) approaches.
People in areas that observe DST should turn their clocks forward one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 9.
This means that sunrise and sunset will be about an hour later on Sunday than the day before, creating more light in the evening and less in the morning. DST will end at 2 a.m. on Nov. 2.
Efforts have been made to make a permanent standard time in Arkansas, including an attempt by Rep. Johnny Rye (R-District 36) in 2020 and 2022, and by Rep. Stephen Meeks (R-District 42) in 2023, according to information on the Arkansas State Legislature website.
However, Rep. Meeks hasn’t given up yet. His most recent attempt is House Bill 1069, titled “To Observe Standard Time Year Round in Arkansas; and To Eliminate Daylight Saving Time in Arkansas,” which he filed on Dec. 18, 2024. This bill is currently still in the House, having already had its first reading on Jan. 13 and its second reading on Feb. 13.
Currently, 20 states have enacted legislation or passed resolutions in support of permanent DST. Some of those states have made the change contingent on neighboring states doing the same. Additionally, California’s move is voter-authorized and is not counted among the 20 states. However, any move to permanent DST requires approval from Congress at the national level.
