FSCIA needing toys for its 8th annual Christmas Toy Drive and Giveaway

Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Dec. 11, 2024 – Local nonprofit Fisher Street Community in Action (FSCIA) needs toy donations as it holds its 8th annual Christmas Toy Drive and Giveaway.

The toy drive is for any children in need between the ages of 0-12 years, and it will continue until the Christmas Toy Giveaway on Dec. 23. This event will take place from 1-5 p.m. while toys last at Fisher Street Community in Action, 315 N. Allis, across from Fisher Street United Methodist Church in Jonesboro.

To receive toys, families must have children in their car with them, as the event is a drive-thru.

Rev. Dr. Charles Coleman, FSCIA Founder, said the event normally sees about 455 families, but FSCIA only has enough toys to give to around 200 families.

“We do this out of love, but we also do this with compassion for the community. We know we won’t have enough for everybody. I’d like to be the person that has enough thought to give everybody but with donations so slow… and we have donations, but we’re going to do what we got to do,” Coleman said.

In addition to taking donations from the community, FSCIA received donations from local businesses and partnered with the Arkansas Department of Human Services Craighead County Administrator Janice Griffin. The nonprofit also works with Juanita Huggins, a member of the JET Community Advisory Board.

“I’ve actually put her over the giveaway,” Coleman said. “One of the things that I learned years ago, basically out of the streets, if you put somebody in charge, let them be in charge, you don’t try to take over. So, I let her do her thing. She comes with her little crew, and she gets everything marked up and put up and put in place and then when she needs me, she calls me.”
