Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – A fourth person has been arrested in connection with a fight in downtown Jonesboro earlier this month.
Dashawn Cortez Pruitt, 29, of Steele, MO, appeared before District Judge Tommy Fowler on Oct. 22, who found probable cause to charge him with first-degree battery, a class B felony. Pruitt was arrested after police said he was involved in a fight that occurred Oct. 5.
According to the affidavit, officers found two victims who appeared to have been beaten and required urgent medical attention. At the scene, multiple people were arrested due to interfering with officers’ duties, not the victims’ injuries, the affidavit said.
During their investigation, police reviewed video footage, which they said showed Pruitt kicking one victim in the head while he was face down on the ground, surrounded by other people kicking him. Pruitt was also seen kicking the other victim after he tried to run away, was pushed down, and was in a fetal position.
Video shared online showed Pruitt standing over the victim after most people had left the scene, the affidavit said. According to the affidavit, Pruitt then kicked the victim’s head while calling him a “racial slang.”
Pruitt was identified through his appearance and by a witness, and he was arrested Oct. 20.
Fowler set bond at $75,000 cash/surety for Pruitt. He also ordered Pruitt to have no contact with the victims.
Pruitt is scheduled to be back in court on Dec. 16.
Three other suspects, 21-year-old Tawonn Donshae Amerson, of Steele, MO., 21-year-old Mark Jones, and 19-year-old Mataiya Sky Phillips, were also seen in video participating in the fight, according to court documents. They each face first-degree battery charges and are also due back in court Dec. 16.
