Jonesboro, AR (JonesboroRightNow.com) – February 20, 2024 – The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas has been awarded a $25,000 grant by the Arkansas Community Foundation Disaster Recovery Fund to aid in disaster relief efforts in Cross County. These funds will be utilized to provide essential disaster food boxes and personal hygiene items to individuals affected by the devastating March 2023 tornado that struck the city of Wynne.
Following the tornado’s aftermath, which wreaked havoc on Cross County, the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas promptly provided emergency food supplies. However, recognizing the prolonged challenges faced by communities and families in the aftermath of such natural disasters, the organization is dedicated to offering sustained support throughout the recovery process.
Christie Jordan, CEO of the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas, expressed the importance of providing not just immediate relief but also long-term assistance to those affected. “By supplying food and personal care items, we aim to alleviate the stress and hardships that families are enduring as they work to rebuild their lives,” she remarked.
The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas collaborates with various local entities, including the Cherry Valley Food Pantry, The Good Shepherd Center, Hickory Ridge United Methodist Church, Wynne Church of Christ, AR Care-Parkin, 363 Feed the Need, and the Wynne Senior Life Center, to extend its services to food-insecure individuals across Cross County communities.
In 2023 alone, the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas distributed over 417,600 pounds of food within Cross County, underscoring its commitment to addressing food insecurity in the region.
This grant from the Arkansas Community Foundation Disaster Recovery Fund will further empower the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas to continue its vital mission of providing essential resources and support to communities in need, particularly in times of crisis like the devastating tornado that struck Cross County in March 2023.
