Lake City, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug 6, 2024 – A traffic stop led to a drug bust early Monday morning.

24-year-old Corey Weatherspoon was driving on Highway 18 when a county deputy tried to pull him over for driving with expired tags. Weatherspoon slowed down, at first, acting like he was pulling over, but then he sped up and took off. The deputy was right behind him.

A few minutes later, the deputy saw Weatherspoon throw something out of his window. Then, a little after that, the suspect finally came to a stop on Highway 135.

Other officers arrived on scene and got Weatherspoon out of the vehicle via a felony traffic stop. Deputies searched the vehicle and found marijuana, ecstasy, and digital scales.

They also searched Weatherspoon himself and found over $700 in cash, mostly in small bills.

He told deputies that it was a Glock handgun that he’d thrown out the window. Deputies went to the area where he’d tossed the Glock. They didn’t find the gun, but they did locate a plastic bag with 470 grams of meth.

Weatherspoon faced multiple charges in his probable cause hearing yesterday: trafficking of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, fleeing, no insurance plus expired tags. His bond was set at $250,000 c/s.
