Brookland, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – June 17, 2024 – According to the Brookland Police Department, officers responded to a two vehicle accident on Friday morning around 9:30am. The report states that the incident happened on Highway 49B, but both vehicles had pulled into a driveway.

When officers arrived on scene, they knew one driver to be Shannon Sims, and knew that he had an extensive history of DWI-related charges.

The report states that the officer noticed multiple signs of intoxication coming from Sims.

When asking Sims what happened, he said he was driving home from work and didn’t see the other driver. When asked what time he got off work, Sims replied 8:00 the night before.

When asked what time he thought the accident happened, Sims stated approximately 5 hours ago.

When giving Sims paperwork to fill out, the officer informed Sims to look it over and fill out each space accordingly. When he returned it to the officer, Sims had simply signed his name to every blank on the form.

According to the officer who worked the accident, Sims drove through his yard and ended up on Highway 49B. He entered the Highway from his yard, crossed the turn lane, and did a “donut” before heading back the other way. It was at this time that he caused a wreck with the other vehicle.

During their investigation, officers learned that Sims’ insurance had been cancelled some time ago, and his truck tags were expired.

Sims BAC was noted as 0.316, which is “severely intoxicated” according to the PC affidavit.

DWI is usually a misdemeanor charge, but because this is Sims’ 4th DWI charge, it is a Felony according to Arkansas Law § 5-65-104.

Sims was transported to CCDC where he awaited his PC hearing.

He went before Judge Boling on Monday where he was given a $75,000 cash only bond.

If he does make bond, he will be forced to wear a BAC ankle monitor.
