Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – The Jonesboro community is invited to hit the lanes at Hijinx next month for a cause that strikes close to home for one family.
On Sunday, May 3, at 1 p.m., the second Terri Tyner Memorial Scholarship Bowling Tournament will take place, raising funds for a Westside High School bowling scholarship.
Tyner was a math teacher at Westside High School for 24 years and also served as the school’s bowling coach. She died on April 17, 2023, following a battle with ovarian cancer.

Her daughters, Gracie Cook, Audrey Guinn, and Chloe Wallis, held the inaugural tournament in 2023 to establish the scholarship fund. Now, they are bringing the event back for a second time.
“We just wanted to preserve her legacy and continue her spirit in the Westside community,” Cook said. “She fought a good, long fight.”
Since the inaugural event, Cook said the fund has made a difference for students, giving out four scholarships already. She added that it is an honor for them to give back.
Cook noted that the 2023 tournament had an “awesome” and “huge turnout.” However, realizing the scholarship funds were getting lower, the sisters decided it was time to host the event again to replenish the account.
Presented by First National Bank, the tournament is designed to provide accessible fun for bowlers of all skill levels. Teams of four, which can consist of men, women, youth, or a mix, will compete across three games utilizing a “9-Pin No Tap” scoring format.
“If you just knock down nine pins, it counts as a strike. So there’s a little bit of an advantage if you can just knock down most of them,” Cook said.
Beyond the game, Cook is looking forward to the atmosphere of the afternoon.
“I think it’s just going to be a good time,” she said. “I’m just excited to see everyone and just talk about memories, and how my mom may have impacted their lives.”
The entry fee is $120 per team, and each group will get a pizza lunch. Beyond the lanes, the fundraiser will feature a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle to help generate additional support for the fund.
Auction items include a family pack from Hijinx, a TENS unit from GTS Physical Therapy, a photography package, and a decorative “Happy Everything” plate donated by the sisters.
The event is capped at 32 teams, and the deadline to enter is Wednesday, April 29, or whenever the team limit is reached. At least four teams have entered so far.
Cook noted that if people cannot attend the tournament but still wish to contribute, the sisters are accepting monetary donations as well as additional silent auction items.
